Now if your child is older than 3 years of age, the first exam routine consists of X-rays, a comprehensive oral exam, and a cleaning that can be accomplished by application of fluoride. We will review oral hygiene instructions with children and their caregivers. If treatment is needed, we will make sure to provide you with a detailed explanation of our findings and recommendations both verbally and written. We make sure you understand not just the work that is being recommended, but the reason behind it as
well. We love open communication with our patients and their parents, so we encourage you to ask questions.

We want you to be clear of and comfortable with all the procedures that will be done. We encourage you to stay with your child during the first exam. For future appointments, we highly suggest you allow your child to accompany our staff during the time he or she is with us. We can establish a much better rapport with your child when you are not present. It allows us to gain your child’s confidence and creates a stronger trust between us. However, if you choose to join us in the treatment room, you are more than welcome to do so. For the safety and privacy of all patients, we ask for children not being treated to stay in the TV room with a supervising adult.
